Stargirl

This week we are finishing our final "class" book in reading--Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl.  The students seem to enjoy this novel.  There is a plethora of figurative language in this test (I can slip in figurative language lessons while they are reading something interesting to them--shhhh!!!)

Most of the students find this book uplifting.  Honestly, Stargirl makes me a little sad.  I know there are many students who struggle with finding their identity--gosh, I wouldn't want to go back to junior high again!  I do appreciate how this book emphasizes that to be happy, one must remain true to self.  I hope the students "get it."
